John D’Anieri, Executive Director
John has extensive experience in teaching and school reform. He has taught in Wisconsin and at three Maine high schools. After leaving the classroom in 2003, he worked for five years as part of the national small schools movement, helping start new, small public schools in collaboration with the Gates Foundation and organizations such as the Coalition of Essential Schools, Early College High Shools and Expeditionary Learning Schools. He was the lead School Designer for Casco Bay High School in Portland.
In the late 80's, John co-managed the Morris Fork Craft Co-operative in Morris Fork. Kentucky. An economic development project sponsored in part by the Presbyterian Church, the project enabled individual artisans and craftspeople to produce and market collaboratively. During his time at the project, sales increased 40% and membership 20%. From 2002- 2004 and from 2007 to the present John has worked as a self-employed consultant.
John is a graduate of the Institute for Civic Leadership, has had extensive training in community engagement though the Study Circles Resources Center (now Everyday Democracy), and in mediation by Mediation and Facilitation Resources. He manages the business end of partner Malia Haddock’s 3 Perro Design, a textile and decorative arts business.
