Art and New Media
Perhaps the most significant change that will make the world a different place in the next century is the ease with which an individual can create and distribute media: art, information, entertainment, advertising and marketing. The community of businesses we envision will provide a ready market for the kinds of visual, verbal, and musical skills that make up the media. So whether students are making and finding an audience for their own work, designing and building a web-site for one of the farm businesses, or producing an authoritative blog on a subject of academic or news interest, we will model the kinds of small businesses that will likely grow and proliferate at a much faster rate than traditional manufacturing.

Textiles and Ceramics
Much of what we buy and use in our homes comes with a low register price and an enormous unseen (here, at least) ecological and human rights cost. Maine has a great history in textiles and a newer history in craft production, making production of sustainable products a natural fit for MFES businesses: fabrics, clothing, decorative textiles; kitchen and cookware, and furniture to name a few.
