Central to the mission of MFES is creating a replicable model (including the school, micro-enterprise, and community investment components). Eventually, every community in Maine could have a Maine Farm Enterprise School. The Gates Foundation is the latest example of several foundations contributing significant capital to education reform and putting special emphasis on the idea of replicability in school design. With the overall goal of better outcomes for more young people - especially those falling through the gaps in the current safety net - we hope to be a model site for replicable funding relationships that better match philanthropic capacity, private capital, and public school funding to the needs of students.
