Maine Farm Enterprise School (MFES) integrates
education, entrepreneurship, and
environmental stewardship. We bring
communities together to build a new, collaborative model
that combines a quality public school, an incubator for micro-enterprises, and a
community investment fund. The central, transformative concept is that we gain economies of scale and
efficacy not by getting bigger, but by integrating systems in a collaborative way, so that all
components of the project serve and are served by the others. Together, we can save our natural
heritage, create jobs, and help our young people envision a future in Maine. We anticipate
launching the first three MFES projects in Fall 2010 in
Lewiston/Auburn,
Greater Portland, and
the
Midcoast region.
